Indians prevail in first road game

EUGENE, Ore. – The Spokane Indians took to the road Sunday for the first time this season and came away with a 5-2 Northwest League baseball victory over the Eugene Emeralds.

Neil Ramirez pitched five strong innings for the Indians, allowing only a first-inning solo home run by Eugene shortstop Dean Anna. Ramirez, 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA, allowed two hits, struck out six and walked two batters. Matt Nevarez pitched two hitless innings in relief and Juan Peralta pitched the last two innings, allowing one run.

The Indians scored single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings before adding two in the seventh.

Jared Bolden singeld twice for Spokane, drove in two runs and scored once. Eric Fry had two hits and an RBI and Joey Butler had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Butler is batting .615.

Cody Podraza and Zach Zaneski also scored for Spokane (4-2).

The Indians outhit Eugene 10-4.

Anna, playing in his first game, went 3 for 4 and drove in both runs for Eugene (3-3).

Pascual Juan (0-1) took the loss in relief of Emeralds starter Simon Castro.

The series continues today.
