Parsons twins in hunt

Twin sisters Haley and Mandy Parsons stayed in the running after the second round of the Washington State Golfing Association Women’s Amateur Championship at Sunland Golf and Country Club in Sequim.

The Parsons, who both graduated from University High School and just completed their sophomore season at Washington State University, each shot 8-over-par 81s on Wednesday.

Haley is in a two-way tie for fourth place with a 36-hole total of 162. Mandy is in a two-way tie for sixth place at 163.

Leslie Folsom of Seattle leads the tournament by three strokes heading into today’s final round. Folsom shot a second-round 81 for a 154 total.

Seattle’s Stephanie Corey (82) is second at 157, followed by Bellingham’s Paige Rachor (82) at 161.

•Defending champion Joel Dahmen of Clarkston fell well off the pace after the second round of the WSGA Men’s Amateur Championship at The Links at Moses Pointe in Moses Lake.

Dahmen, who trailed by seven strokes after the first round, shot his second straight 73 for a 146 total. He trails leader Jarin Todd of Woodinville, Wash., by 13 shots. Todd has opened the 72-hole tournament with rounds of 67 and 66 for a 133 total.

The only other area golfer within striking distance is Lewiston’s Geno Bonnalie, who shot 71 for a 145 total.
