Transition Studios is Chery Clark’s dream
Longtime area hair stylist Chery Clark switched from booth-renter to salon owner when she opened Transition Studios in May.
Her salon and day spa is located at the corner of Sprague Avenue and Sullivan Road near Hastings Books Music & Videos, in the building left vacant when Tracy Jewelers moved to its new location.
And Clark is quick to agree, she’s found a gem of a site.
“People walk past, holding hands, and they’re waving. It’s a great location,” she says. “I really believe God’s hand is in this. This is a happy place,” she adds.
Clark, along with her husband Kevin, made a few cosmetic and structural changes to the nearly 4,000-square-foot building they’re leasing. In the middle of the salon, a partial wall was added to separate the reception desk from the shampoo stations. Visible upon entering on the wall is a large screen TV to entertain and educate clients about products and trends.
The building now accommodates separate areas for massage therapy, a hydrotherapy tub, skin and body treatments, a tanning bed, and even photo shoots. Furniture was added for hair stylist and nail technicians, which are mostly located along the edges of the salon to capture the natural light that flows in from the windowed areas.
Clark, who has been in the industry as a hair stylist and esthetician since 1976, worked most recently in Spokane Valley but left to pursue her dream of becoming a salon owner. She says Transition Studios is about helping people feel their best – be it with a total spa package or with one of the services offered.
“I wanted an all-encompassing salon where we could work from the inside out,” Clark says. “When people feel better, (and feel good about the way they look), they project better,” she says.
Transition Studios includes 11 hair stylists; three nail technicians; licensed massage therapist Dian Cogdill, who also is certified in a massage called Lypossage that helps drain lymphatic fluid; licensed esthetician Alisha Fenton who offers facials, body polishing and mud wraps among her skin care services; and photographer Terry Eutsler, who is on hand to capture special events or a new hair style.
