The Spokesman-Review

Devanei Hampton scored 16 points and Ashley Walker added 15, helping No. 9 California tie the school record for victories in a season with a 61-47 win over Washington State on Friday night at Pullman.

California (24-4, 15-2 Pac-10) was coming off a loss to No. 7 Stanford that dropped them into a tie for the Pac-10 lead with the Cardinal. The 1983-84 team that went 24-8 had the most wins in Cal history.

Heather Molzen scored 14 points to lead Washington State (5-23, 2-15).

The Cougars are 2-3 in their last five games, after opening the Pac-10 season with 12 straight losses, including a 99-44 loss at Cal.

•At Seattle, JJ Hones scored eight of her 16 points during a 12-0 run to start the second half, Candice Wiggins had 22 points and the No. 7 Stanford Cardinal (26-3, 15-2 Pac-10) pulled away from the Washington Huskies (12-17, 7-10) for a 73-53 win.

Stanford needs a win Sunday at Washington State to wrap up at least a share of its eighth straight Pac-10 title, no matter what No. 9 California does at Washington. A win against the Cougars would also give Stanford the top seed in the Pac-10 tournament.

Jayne Appel scored 12 and Kayla Pedersen added 11 as the Cardinal won their 14th straight.

Andrea Plouffe led Washington with 11 points.

•Ula Tauala had 15 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead the North Idaho Cardinals (20-8, 9-5 Scenic West) past the visiting Snow Badgers (12-16, 5-9) 72-53 at Christensen Gym.

Lindsey Stark and Kia Gibson scored 10 points apiece for NIC.
