In brief: Lakeland school levy meeting set
Voters interested in learning more about the upcoming Lakeland School District levy election are invited to attend an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 18 at Timberlake Junior High School in Spirit Lake.
Lakeland School District voters will cast ballots March 25 on the two-year, $3.9 million levy.
The money – $1.95 million a year for the next two years – would be used to pay for basic school expenses in the district of about 4,400 students.
The levy would increase property taxes by an anticipated 35 cents per $1,000 in valuation. That would be a $20.90 annual increase based on the $205,000 assessed value of the average home in Lakeland School District.

Reader’s Theatre presents ‘Scull’
Lake City Playhouse Reader’s Theatre on March 14 and 15 will present “A Scull in Connemara,” directed by Tom Nash, a dark adult-only comedy about a small Irish town whose cemetery caretaker must periodically exhume the buried bodies to make room for new ones.
His charge of “out with the old – in with the new” eventually requires him to dig up the grave of his late wife. Her death, under suspicious circumstance, becomes even more of a mystery when it is discovered that her grave is empty.
Show time is 7:30 p.m. at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center at The Old Church in Post Falls. Tickets cost $5.
Lookout Pass
Go uphill, then back down
Finish out the ski season by participating in an uphill/downhill ski race sponsored by North Idaho College’s Outdoor Pursuits and Mountain Gear beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, at Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area.
Racers will test their endurance by skiing uphill to the top of the mountain, then their agility will play a role in the downhill race to the bottom. Each racer will complete two laps.
The race is designed as a fun event, so skiers are encouraged to wear costumes or silly dress as a celebration of the end of the ski season. Awards will be given to the fastest male skier and the fastest female skier as well as the most outlandishly dressed.
Race entry is $10 and sign-ups are not required. Registration will take place prior to the start of the race.
