Apology extended; tax increase claim upheld

Mr. Ralph Baker, I, Ed Griffin, do apologize to you, because you did not have any way of knowing if I was a homicidal maniac or not.

You do have at your fingertips, my plot number and all my information, who I am and where I live. I have never lived or owned property in the Valley, and I have never been turned down for a reduction, or exemption from the very nice and polite employees in the Assessors Office.

In fact, I haven’t been to the Assessors Office in over six years. I have no idea who you are talking about in the Valley, or what problems they are having with you. Therefore my assertion that my taxes were raised by 110 percent still holds. I only have bad days when some elected official who have all of this information at their grasp, uses it in the manner you have.

As for my joke, I have a few references, printed in The Spokesman-Review: Dec. 16, 2005, “Baker’s attitude less than winning”; on Oct. 28, 2006, “Union calls for Baker to apologize,” you accused your staff of undermining your election try; Feb. 10, 2008, “Assessor limits customers service.”

LC drama, girls hoops team make us proud

I am not connected in any way to Lewis and Clark High School other than peripherally, by being the grandmother of two students who attend LC, but the school deserves recognition.

First: Kudos to the LC Drama teacher, cast and musical director of the school play, “Miss Saigon.” Last Thursday evening I was invited by my granddaughter, an LC senior, to attend the opening permformance of “Miss Saigon,” which is being put on by the students of LC. The performance was incredible and the talent of the actors undeniable. Although all cast members were outstanding, of particular note was the perfomance of the Engineer, played by a young man named Greg Safranek. Before his performance, Mr. Safranek was unknown to my granddaughter and me, but I’ll be watching for him in the future to do great things on the New York stage or in Hollywood. The play continues today through Saturday. Don’t miss it.

Second: kudos to the LC girls basketball team. The entire city must be bursting with pride for these young athletes who, on Saturday night, brought home the title of state champ for the third consecutive year, which is a state record. GO TIGERS!
