Sharks edge Blackhawks 3-2
Jonathan Cheechoo, Kyle McLaren and Patrick Marleau scored as the San Jose Sharks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Friday night at Chicago and tied a team record with their eighth straight victory.
Joe Thornton added two assists for the Sharks, whose streak equals the team’s run from April 3-15, 2006. San Jose also won its sixth straight on the road, tying a team high. The Sharks have the NHL’s best road record at 23-8-3.
Brent Seabrook and Jonathan Toews scored for the Blackhawks, whose three-game winning streak ended. Chicago is 8-4-0 in its last 12.
The Blackhawks’ loss came on a night when the team saluted Hall of Famers Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita, probably the biggest players in the team’s history, in a ceremony before the game.
Oilers 2, Blue Jackets 1 (OT): At Columbus, Ohio, Andrew Cogliano scored 1:53 into overtime as Edmonton held off the Blue Jackets after Columbus tied it with 1 second left in regulation.
Devils 2, Lightning 1 (OT): At Newark, N.J., Patrik Elias scored 4:02 into overtime, lifting New Jersey into first place in the Eastern Conference with a victory over lowly Tampa Bay.
Thrashers 3, Wild 2 (SO): At Atlanta, Erik Christensen scored the only goal in the shootout and the Thrashers snapped an eight-game losing streak by beating Minnesota.
Predators 2, Flames 1 (OT): At Calgary, Alberta, J.P. Dumont scored 2:13 into overtime, leading Nashville to a victory over the Flames.
Ducks’ Perry sidelined
Anaheim Ducks right wing Corey Perry will be sidelined about six weeks after surgery for a lacerated tendon above his right knee.
He was injured in the third period of the Ducks’ 1-0 loss at Colorado on Thursday night. The surgery was done that night in Denver.
