Area roundup: Mead defeats Bullpups in double overtime
Jason Hamer’s goal in the second overtime gave the Mead Panthers a 2-1 win over the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups Wednesday afternoon in Greater Spokane League boys soccer at G-Prep.
Jordan Etten made a run down the left sideline and crossed the ball, but it was deflected by goalie Justin Roberts. Hamer corralled the ball and tapped it in for the victory.
Elsewhere, Casey Ames scored the winning goal in OT as the visiting Lewis and Clark Tigers beat the East Valley Knights 2-1. Matt Rubright of the Tigers fired a shot at EV goalie Jordan Bolster. Ames gathered up the deflection and scored the winner. … Sam Busby netted the winning score in OT as host Central Valley defeated University 4-3. Brandon Stevens crossed the ball from the left side to Busby, who one-timed the ball from about 10 yards for the victory. … Shadle Park goalies Sam Shepard and Nate Ambriz combined for a shutout and the Highlanders blanked the host Rogers Pirates 7-0. Jake Krueger tallied two goals and recorded an assist. … Alec Cutter posted a hat trick and Taylor Proctor added three assists as the Ferris Saxons rolled to a 6-2 win over host North Central.

College baseball
Washington State blew a four-run lead as Wichita State tallied three runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings and the Shockers closed out the visiting Cougars 6-4.
Tim Kelley allowed four earned runs in 41/3 innings for Wichita State. Tyler Fleming relieved him to finish the game, allowing one hit and no runs.
“Brennan Thorpe allowed one earned run in seven innings and recorded the win for Portland as it defeated Gonzaga 12-7 in non-conference action at the Pepsi/Johnny Quick Classic in Fresno, Calif.
Riley Henricks of the Pilots collected three hits, including a double and a home run.
Golf
The Washington State women finished as co-champions at the UNLV Spring Invitational in Boulder Creek, Nev.
The Cougars broke the school record for lowest three-round total with a 5-under-par 859. WSU had four finishers in the top 20.
Eastern Washington’s Marli Mikulecky had a hole-in-one on the third hole and shot a school-record 67 after rounds of 83 and 76.
