Additional votes solidify Liberty bond
The Liberty School District bond edged more firmly into the approval column after additional votes were counted this week. The bond, which requires 60 percent approval, increased its lead to 61.46 percent with 828 yes votes, up from 708 yes votes on election day Tuesday.
“We’re feeling like we have a victory, and we’re excited about that,” said Superintendent Bill Motsenbocker. “I wasn’t as confident when we were just above 60 percent. The votes that trail in toward the end here probably won’t make much difference.”
The $435,000 bond will pay for a new roof on the combined junior high and elementary school and to repair or replace the parking lots, an access road between the schools and part of the elementary playground.
The district’s technology levy solidified its lead with an increase to a 55.51 percent yes vote. Levies require a simple majority to pass.
Motsenbocker said he is glad that he can breathe a sigh of relief. “We’re feeling fortunate,” he said. “We’re encouraged by the show of support we’ve received from our communities.”
Additional ballots will be counted on Thursday. The election must be certified by March 26.
