Sleeping man arrested in vehicle
Officers arrested a 39-year-old Spokane Valley man early Tuesday after finding him asleep in a stolen car.
Officer Tim Jones was checking the apartment complex at 3020 S. Clinton Road about 1:45 a.m. when he saw a stolen 1993 Honda Accord. The car’s owner had left it running unattended the night before to charge the battery.
Jones approached the Honda and saw Daniel W. Fitzwater, 3019 S. Clinton No. 3, asleep behind the wheel. He roused the suspect who claimed he had bought the car at a store on Monday.
Jones arrested Fitzwater and booked him into the Spokane County Jail on a felony count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Driver arrested on drug charges
A 45-year-old Greenacres resident was jailed on felony drug charges early Tuesday after she was paced at 20 mph over the speed limit in her 1996 convertible Corvette.
Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy James Brewer was eastbound on the freeway just after midnight when he spotted a dark car get onto the freeway from the Freya onramp and cross three eastbound lanes of travel.
He accelerated up to the car and paced it at 80 mph in the posted 60 mph zone. He also noted that the driver was drifting back and forth across lanes of travel.
He stopped the car at I-90 and Park Road and identified the driver as 45-year-old Jamie Michelle Robinson. He could smell alcohol on her breath and she attempted and failed field sobriety tests.
Brewer arrested Robinson for DUI. In a subsequent search, the deputy found 40 methadose tablets in a plastic bag inside her jacket. He also found a coin purse that contained a drug pipe and numerous chunks of crack cocaine.
Robinson was booked on charges of possession of crack cocaine and possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, both felonies.
Police seek Macy’s assault suspect
Spokane Valley Police are looking for a 33-year-old Spokane woman who assaulted a mall security officer Monday night and then fled the store in her underwear.
The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. when store security officers began watching the suspect as she picked up various items of clothing without seeming to care about sizes or price. She carried the items into a changing room, then exited and placed everything but a pair of jeans on a counter.
When she walked out of the store without paying for the missing jeans, the security staff stopped her. At first she appeared cooperative and accompanied them back inside, but she became combative and attempted to flee.
During a scuffle, she punched a male security officer twice in the chest. He pulled her to the floor, but the suspect’s coat came off. When he grabbed her dress, the garment tore and it too came off. The suspect ran out of the store in only her underclothes and jumped into a white Honda.
Unfortunately for Nichole Mechell Marriott, she left her purse containing her identification and the jeans she was stealing at the Macy’s scene of the crime. The security staff found Marriott’s purse and ID on the floor with the coat and torn dress.
Officer Darrell Stidham arrived to conduct the follow-up investigation and learned that Marriott is wanted on six warrants charging her with two counts of third-degree theft, two counts of city theft and single counts of second-degree theft and third-degree driving while license suspended.
Stidham added to her wanted status by completing a request that she be charged with second-degree robbery for the Macy’s theft and assault.
