Long ball propels Indians

North Central’s Samantha Pryor had a grand slam and Kelsey Vallies struck out 12 batters as the Indians (5-1) cruised to a 13-1 Greater Spokane League softball win over visiting Ferris (0-5) on Thursday afternoon.

Kim Hare had two hits for NC. Cary Inman and Michelle Lytle had the only hits for the Saxons.

Also in the league, University’s Shelby Bethel gave up two hits in six innings and struck out nine in a 10-0 victory at Mt. Spokane. Lexi Obenchain and Ashley Moon each had two hits for the Titans (4-3). Melissa Natwick and Stacy Gray earned hits for the Wildcats (4-3).

Games postponed due to weather included: Central Valley at Gonzaga Prep (April 14 makeup), East Valley at Rogers (April 9) and Shadle Park vs. Lewis and Clark.

Boys soccer

Junior Trajano scored a goal and assisted on Ryan Phillips’ goal as Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) defeated visiting Riverside 3-1 in Great Northern League action. The Eagles (5-1, 4-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Riverside (2-4, 2-2) converted a penalty kick in the 55th minute. … Cheney received contributions from a number of players in a 10-2 victory over visiting Deer Park. Justin Hale and Mitch Weller each scored two goals for the Blackhawks (6-1, 5-1). Jared Attridge and Kevin McNeil scored for the Stags (2-4, 2-4). … Medical Lake vs. West Valley was postponed.

Prep baseball

C.J. Perry surrendered two runs in six innings, struck out five and knocked in three runs to lead Gonzaga Prep to a 10-8 Greater Spokane League victory over visiting Shadle Park. Conner McClary hit a three-run home run for the Bullpups (3-4) in the third inning. G-Prep added five more runs in the fifth. The Highlanders (1-4) pieced together six runs in the seventh to close the gap. … Justin Sinn hit a grand slam in the fourth to help lead East Valley to a 12-11 win over host North Central. The Knights (3-4) climbed out to a 12-4 lead in the sixth before the Indians (3-4) charged back behind three hits apiece from Evan Witt and Scott Simchuk. … Sean McNaghten went 4 for 5 with five RBIs for Mead in a 16-2 win over host Rogers. The Panthers (3-1) also got four RBIs from Glen Reser. Rogers (2-5) was doomed by six errors. … Games postponed because of weather were: Mt. Spokane at Lewis and Clark (Saturday) and Ferris at University.

Prep track and field

Lewis and Clark’s boys and girls swept East Valley and University at the teams’ Greater Spokane League meet at Hart Field. Eleanor Siler won four events to lead the Tigers girls. Levi Taylor won the long jump and triple jump for the Tigers boys. … The Freeman Scotties earned a boys victory with 209 points and the Colville Indians captured the girls title with 196 points at the Ezra Gordon Invitational in Colville. Kelsey Gauche won the 100- and 200-meter dash for Colville. Mark Soelberg (110 hurdles) and Anthony Entman (300 hurdles) earned wins for the Scotties.

College tennis

Eastern Washington’s Amanda Mankovits earned Big Sky Conference Co-Player of the Week honors.

College softball

Whitworth suffered a doubleheader setback at the hands of No. 2-ranked NAIA Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego. The Pirates (7-16) lost 9-1 and 2-1.

The Sea Lions (25-5) scored the winning runs on a walk-off single in the seventh inning in the second game. Lacey Parry had two hits and Halley Cey and Rachel Anderson had hits for Whitworth in the first game.
