In brief: EVSD superintendent finalists named
The East Valley School District announced four finalists for the superintendent position Friday.
The finalists are Glen Szymoniak, assistant superintendent, Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, Soldotna, Alaska; John Glenewinkel, superintendent, Ellensburg School District, Ellensburg; Debra Howard, East Valley’s interim superintendent; and Peter Lewis, superintendent, Clarkston School District, Clarkston.
Interviews with the finalists will be April 7 and 9 through 11. The candidates will tour the district and meet with administrators, staff, principals, students and the board of directors. Members of the public may attend community meetings from 5:15 to 6 p.m. each day.
A final decision will be made by April 22 and the new superintendent will assume duties on July 1.

City plans ‘birthday’ open house
Spokane Valley city officials plan a public celebration Monday of the city’s fifth “birthday.”
The open house event at the CenterPlace community center, 2426 N. Discovery Place, will include entertainment, informational displays, activities for children and birthday cake.
Mayor Rich Munson and other city officials will be on hand to greet guests from 4 to 7 p.m.

Development regulations to be discussed
Spokane Valley city officials have scheduled a public meeting Friday morning to discuss land development regulations.
Topics to be discussed from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave., will include “over-the-counter” permitting, and implementation of the recently adopted Uniform Development Code, street standards and the city stormwater manual.

Poker run to benefit heart patient
A poker run and benefit raffle are scheduled April 20 for Post Falls resident Heather Bosio.
Bosio, 31, needs open-heart surgery and is uninsured. The poker run will begin at 10 a.m. at the Oasis Tavern on East Trent Avenue in Spokane Valley and will conclude at Curley’s Dining Car Lounge near Hauser Lake.
Cost is $10, with half the money going to Heather’s medical expenses and half to the highest poker hand.
A benevolence fund for Bosio has been set up at the Spokane Teachers Credit Union. For more information call the Oasis at 928-9952.
