Safe places
Beginning in April, children will be able to find refuge from abuse at 75 Safe Places in Spokane, including every fire station, libraries and many businesses.
Brian Schaeffer, assistant fire chief at the Spokane Fire Department, said Station 15 was already in use as a Safe Place when two children showed up saying they felt threatened at home. By protocol, the station went out of service until youth counselors arrived.
