Liberty lake blotter
A suspected car prowler hiding under a pile of clothes in the back seat of a car he had broken into couldn’t escape police last week.
His arrest was one of two made by Liberty Lake police from April 21-27.
An officer assisted the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office in responding to a vehicle-prowling call shortly after 8 p.m. April 26 in the 19600 block of East Wellesley. The suspect was found in the back seat, hiding under a pile of clothes. “He thought he was invisible,” said police Chief Brian Asmus. The 47-year-old Spokane man turned out to be wanted on a warrant for domestic violence assault and a warrant for a protection order violation.
A 26-year-old Spokane Valley man was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock.
The Police Department has purchased a new bicycle to be used for bicycle patrols on the city’s trail system. The department already has two other bicycles. The two-wheeled patrols will begin when the weather is nicer. “For our community, it’s a great patrol technique,” Asmus said.
The bicycle was outfitted with an upgraded braking system, a silent gear shift, red and blue lights and bags to hold first-aid equipment and other gear. The bicycles are frequently used during large events such as the annual community yard sale and the summer concerts in Pavillion Park.
During the past week police issued four citations for speeding and two for failure to obey a traffic control device. Additional citations were issued for license and plates required, failure to show liability insurance, a log book violation, illegal use of studded tires, violating a posted road restriction, failure to stop at a stop sign, second-degree negligent driving and prohibited parking. Officers conducted three commercial vehicle inspections and responded to calls for harassment and a suspicious person.
