Carnival at S. Pines

South Pines Elementary, 12021 E. 24th Ave., will host its sixth annual school carnival Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The event will feature pony rides, a petting zoo, bingo, a clown, a jump house, cake walk, food and games. Thousands of prizes will be given out. Game tickets are 25 cents each or $15 for a wristband. The carnival is hosted by the PTSA.

Shredding day

Intermountain Community Bank, 5211 E. Sprague Ave., will hold a free document destruction day May 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The bank and DeVries Business Solutions are sponsoring the shredding event. Participants will be limited to two boxes per person. For more information, call 944-3880.

Annual Car-B-Que coming up

The 11th annual Car-B-Que will be held next Saturday at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road.

There will be a car show with antique, classic and collectible automobiles. Prizes will be awarded. There’s a $5 suggested donation to register a vehicle for judging. It’s free to spectators.

The event also includes a barbecue, with various items available for purchase, a plant sale, and the blood mobile will be there to accept donations. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call the church at 924-9750 for more information.

Wineries plan weekend tasting

Spokane County’s 12 wineries will hold their annual Spring Barrel Tasting on Mother’s Day weekend, Friday through May 11.

The wineries will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Activities include sampling new and pre-released wines and some still in the wine-making process in the barrels or tanks.

Five wineries are in the Spokane Valley area: Arbor Crest, Knipprath, Latah Creek , Mountain Dome and Nodland. Other participating wineries are Caterina, Barrister, Grand Ronde, Lone Canary, Robert Karl Cellars, Townshend Cellar and Vintage Hill.

Central Valley

All district concert

More than 400 Central Valley School District students in grades 5 through 12 will perform in an all-district orchestral concert May 15.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. at the Central Valley High School Theatre, 821 S. Sullivan Road. Admission is free.

The concert will include a special tribute to the late Mark Williams, a longtime Spokane-area music educator and esteemed composer of works for school bands and orchestras. The combined orchestra will perform two pieces by Williams, “Fancy Fiddles” and “Mississippi Cakewalk,” in his memory.
