Events planned for Mother’s Day

If you are stuck trying to think about what to get that special mother in your life for her big day, the Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Road, will present its annual Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The menu will include a carving station with beef tri-tip in a bourbon sauce, a rum-glazed pit ham, waffles, a salad, pasta and dessert bar, and the buffet is all-you-can-eat.

There will also be children’s activities, a silent auction and a performance by the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church choral group.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $6 for children ages 2 to 12 years old.

Special Mother’s Day service

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1503 W. Dean Ave., will hold a special Mass to honor women who have placed children up for adoption Friday from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Anyone touched by adoption of any faith are invited to attend the service which will be led by Bishop William Skylstad.

Male chorale performances

The California Baptist University Male Chorale will be performing in churches throughout the area this weekend.

The 69-member choir will perform Friday at 7 p.m. at the East Valley Baptist Church, 14516 E. Wellesley Ave., Spokane Valley. For more information, call the church office at 928-4809.

Saturday at 7 p.m., the chorale may perform in Mix Park or the Deer Park Community Center in Deer Park depending on the weather. Audience members should bring their own chairs no matter the location.

The chorale also will perform at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, 1205 E. Crawford, Deer Park.

The chorale moves out to Airway Heights Sunday, where it will perform at Airway Heights Baptist Church, 12332 W. Sunset Highway, at 6 p.m. For more information, call the church office at 244-2474.

The group will perform at the Dishman Baptist Church, 315 N. Argonne Road, Spokane Valley, at 7 p.m. Monday. For more information call the church office at 926-0575.

Donations will be accepted, and the group’s CD will be available for sale after each performance.

Pentecost worship service

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., will present a special Pentecost celebration Sunday at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m.

The service will feature music by the new St. Mark’s drumming group of fifth- and sixth-grade students, the St. Mark’s Chancel choir and will be accompanied by Dan Keberle on trumpet, Carol Miyamoto on organ, Andrew Knapp on bass and Rick Westrick on percussion.

All worshippers should wear red to the service.

Yard sale

Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave., will hold its spring yard sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Unity events

The Unity in the Community Players of the Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present the play, “The Odd Couple,” based on the television series.

Performances will be held Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., May 16 at 7 p.m. and May 17 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the door.
