In brief: Valley Fire promotes officers

The Spokesman-Review

Four Spokane Valley Fire Department officers were promoted Monday.

Inspector Bill Clifford was named deputy fire marshal, Training Officer Paul Hatten became top-level “step 5” captain, Engineer Sean Barrett was promoted to captain, and Kurt Kilayko moved from firefighter to engineer.

Clifford, who was promoted on the basis of training and certification, will remain the department’s public information officer.

Assistant Chief Larry Rider said the other promotions were triggered by assigning a captain to administrative duties, creating a vacancy on the firefighting line.
