Israel alliance a blessing

The Spokesman-Review

With the advent of Israel’s 60th birthday, we should take time to remember its rather rocky history. Three thousand years ago, the pharaoh of Egypt gave Joseph the land of Goshen for his relatives. Out of fear, the Egyptians later enslaved them.

Throughout the ensuing millennia, Israel has been attacked by everyone from the Mongols to the Roman Catholics. During World War II, a Jewish chemist invented a way to produce cheap acetone (used in black gunpowder). When asked what the world could do in return, he requested a home for his people. It was given to them. As the smallest nation in the Middle East, there are repeated calls to whittle down her borders even more than they presently are.

Abraham had two sons. The first had descendants who “will have a bow in their hands. They shall be at war with every man.” The second, the son of promise, had descendants who “will bless the entire Earth.”

America has been blessed because of our alliance with Israel. We should continue to pray for them.
