Support for city center along river
I am writing to voice my support for the Vocal Point (Saturday, May 3) written by Mike Andrews.
Just think of the beautiful city center we could build along the river between Pines Road and Sullivan Road. We could start off small with the same concept that was proposed for the University City site and expand as growth dictated. This could be a real showplace for our city. Yes, it would probably cost more, but if the city center is to expand, isn’t it worth taking advantage of such a desirable location? Imagine the views we could have from riverfront restaurants and hotels. The streets could be designed to fit our needs.
Next topic. I was told that a city councilperson was recently heard stating that the opposition to reverting Sprague and Appleway to two-way streets was cooling. If true, that councilperson is as far from reality as you can get. Our opposition stands firm. We had two public hearings and the public was very definite. We need these streets to move traffic. As growth occurs, we will need them even more.
Just look at our options. Why not follow Mr. Andrews’ advice and give us the best of both sides?
