Police blotter: Police warn, bike thieves on the prowl
CHENEY – Bike thefts are on the rise in Cheney, and police have received numerous calls about bicycles that have gone missing.
” ‘Tis the season,” said Cmdr. Rick Campbell. “People need to lock up their bikes.”
Here are the calls police handled during the the week of April 25 through May 2.
April 25
“Seth M. Ashworth, 18 was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the 700 block of First Street.
“There were two reports of identification theft, the first at the 300 block of First Street and the second at the 1200 block of Second Street.
“Officers responded to a report of malicious mischief at the 700 block of Seventh Street. Someone broke a window out of a vehicle.
“A red bike was found at the 2300 block of University Lane.
April 26
“A gray bike was reported stolen at the 700 block of First Street.
“At the 900 block of Second Street, officers responded to a report of malicious mischief. The windows of three vehicles had been broken.
“Micah D. Fischer, 20, was arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell at the 200 block of West Second Street.
April 27
“There was a report of a verbal domestic violence incident at the 000 block of Vine Street.
“Police responded to a report of theft at the 700 block of Sixth Street. A television, VCR and a computer were taken.
April 28
“Brent E. Bevans, 24, was arrested for suspicion of trespassing along the railroad tracks near Mullinix Road and the Cheney-Plaza Road.
“A bike was reported stolen at the 1400 block of Third Street.
“There was another report of trespassing at the 200 block of North Fourth Street. The suspect was approached by police, given a warning and released.
“A red bike was found at the 2700 block of Bethany.
April 29
“A chrome bike was found at the 600 block of Union Street.
“A 14-year-old boy was arrested for suspicion of malicious mischief at the school district bus garage at the 2700 block of North Sixth Street. The boy is suspected of throwing a rock through a bus window.
“A blue bike and bicycle equipment were reported stolen at the 200 block of North Fifth.
April 30
“A 15-year-old girl was reported as a runaway at the 000 block of B Street. The girl is still at large.
“There was a hit-and-run reported at the 400 block of First Street.
“Two 15-year-old girls were arrested for suspicion of shoplifting at the Ben Franklin and the Dollar Store. The two were arrested at the high school.
“Police served an outside agency warrant for contempt of court. A 16-year-old girl was arrested at the 500 block of Fourth Street.
“A 15-year-old boy was reported as a runaway at the 2600 block of Wheaton. The boy was found and returned home.
“Shayne E. Dougherty, 21, was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated at the 900 block of First Street.
“A 16-year-old boy was arrested for suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol at the 2200 block of First Street.
“Police responded to a report of domestic violence at the 2600 block of Wheaton. A 15-year-old boy was arrested for domestic violence assault, domestic violence malicious mischief which is a felony, and domestic violence reckless endangerment.
May 1
“There was a report of assault at the 200 block of Pine Street.
“Officers responded to a report of malicious mischief at Salnave Elementary School. Someone had tagged the playground equipment with graffiti.
“Billy M. Batten, 31, was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license at the 1000 block of First Street.
May 2
“Petar Milasinovic, 20, was arrested for suspicion of being a minor in possession and public urination at the 900 block of Second Street.
