Rusty Shellhorn fired a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 13, and the fourth-seeded Central Valley Bears rolled to a 10-1 victory over the fifth-seeded Gonzaga Prep Bullpups (10-11) in a District 8 4A baseball playoff game on Wednesday at Central Valley.

Jeff Davis went 3 for 4 with a home run and two runs batted in for the Bears (12-9). Teammates Corey Mack and Blake Bledsoe each went 3 for 4. Mack doubled twice and drove in three runs.

CV will play the top-seeded University Titans (18-2) on Friday at 4 p.m. at U-Hi.

In other district action, Andrew Kittredge went the distance, striking out 12, to lead the third-seeded Ferris Saxons (15-6) to a 10-2 victory over the sixth-seeded Rogers Pirates (9-12) at Ferris. Jeff Minnerly went 3 for 4 and C.J. Haney had a double and a triple to spark Ferris. Rogers ace Jacob Partridge left after one inning with a sore elbow. The Saxons will play No. 2 seed Mead (16-4) on Friday at 4 p.m. at Mead.

Andy Vennum led the top-seeded West Valley Eagles (16-4) to a 13-2 victory over the No. 4 seed Pullman Greyhounds (12-6) in a District 7 2A playoff game at WV. Vennum went 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs, and tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts. Tommy Peterson plated four runs with a pair of homers for WV. … In the other district game, the No. 2 seed Clarkston Bantams (15-6) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on to beat the third-seeded Cheney Blackhawks (14-7) 5-4 in Clarkston. Cheney and Pullman will play a loser-out, winner-to-state game on Saturday at noon at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman. WV and Clarkston will play at 4 p.m., also in Pullman, to decide the top two seeds to state.

Gil South and Dan Donoian had three hits apiece and host Lakeland (9-10) scored in the seventh for an 11-10 win over Moscow (3-19) in a state-qualifying game of the 4A Region I tournament at Rathdrum.

Golf

Chessey Thomas of St. George’s, who competes for Lewis and Clark, shot a 73 at Liberty Lake for a two-day total of 149 to earn medalist honors at the girls District 8 4A tourney. Thomas finished three strokes ahead of Mead’s Lauren Howell. LC qualified four girls for state.

“Colville’s Brittany Ray and Pullman’s Paige Whidbee carded 87s to tie for low-scoring honors and Pullman edged Colville by one stroke to win the girls team title at the Great Northern League championship tourney at Chewelah Golf Course. The top 13 finishers at district on Monday at MeadowWood qualify for state. … Aaron Byrd of Cheney shot a 72 to earn medalist honors and Clarkston won the boys team title at the GNL championship tourney at Chewelah Golf Course. Matt Olson carded a 77 to lead Clarkston to a 15-stroke win over runner-up Colville. The top 26 finishers advanced to district.

Chris Williams shot a 6-under-par 65 to lead Moscow’s boys to the team title at the 4A Region I tournament at Stoneridge Golf Course in Blanchard. Moscow’s Karen Christian led the girls with an 88.

Softball

Priest River (4-14) scored all its runs in the top of the sixth inning to rally for a 7-5 win over Kellogg (12-6) in a 3A District I loser-out playoff game at Spirit Lake. PR advances to a play-in game for a state berth at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fruitland High School.

Tennis

Mt. Spokane’s Zach Caldwell and East Valley’s Miranda Brother won singles titles at the District 8 3A tournament at Mt. Spokane. Caldwell beat teammate Justin McLain 6-4, 6-1 in the finals, and Brother beat Mt. Spokane’s Valerie Nauditt 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
