Quality of life on track
While I respect opinions of taxpayers opposed, it does not negate the fact there are taxpayers who feel this (Spokane Raceway Park) project is worthwhile. An impressive amount of volunteers are waiting for the word to assist in cleanup efforts, preserving a place for those now faced with needing to travel out of state to pursue their hobby and thus creating a new venue for Spokane County.
County golf courses and Avista Stadium have county support; why not SRP? The bonus is, SRP can be utilized for many events aside from racing. The facility could host car shows (car clubs donate portions of money to local charities), concerts or a law enforcement driving course.
“Quality of life” means something different to everyone. Participation at SRP has taught our three children the importance of community, camaraderie and good sportsmanship. They’ve learned that racing cars has a “place” and it is not on our streets. Establishing “relationships” and thoughtfully interacting with a diverse group of people impacts everyone’s “quality of life.”
Thank you, Commissioners Mielke and Richard for joining those with the foresight to see the positive impact this endeavor has, and recognizing that all “classics” once needed some body work, paint and TLC.
