Prep tennis
Mead won the boys title and Gonzaga Prep the girls title in the Washington District 8 4A tournament.
In the boys division, played at Mead, Whitman Hough of Ferris defeated Peter Ho of Central Valley 6-0, 6-1 for the singles championship. Chris Martin and Zach Williams of Lewis and Clark defeated Mead’s Ethan Vaughn and Ethan Burns 6-1, 7-5 for the doubles championship. Mead scored 72 team points. Ferris was second with 70 and LC and G-Prep tied for third with 47. Katie Griffith of Ferris defeated Mead’s Katrina Schwab 6-2, 6-3 in the girls singles championship match. Britta Stime and Katijene Stime of Mead defeated GP’s Rachel Bechtolt and Cassie MacLean 6-3, 6-4 in the doubles championship. G-Prep scored 69 points, followed by Mead (66) and University (53).
•Gina Sprint of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) won the District 7 1A girls championship, defeating Bree Riddle of Freeman 6-1, 6-2. Sprint defeated Leigh Talbott (Freeman) and Riddle defeated Kristin Rogers (Lakeside) in the semifinals. Lea Jansen and Hanna Jansen of Freeman defeated Katie Bauer and Riddle 6-1, 6-1 in the doubles title.
Idaho 5A Region I
At Coeur d’Alene, Lewiston won the team championship with 67 points, followed by Coeur d’Alene (45), Lake City (39) and Post Falls (24). In boys singles, CdA’s Sam Lyons won the championship match 6-4, 6-2 against teammate Blake Hintz. Hintz finished third when Cory Johnson of Lake City defeated him in the second-place match. In girls singles, Rye Hewitt of Lewiston defeated Haley Sullivan of Post Falls 6-1, 6-1 for the championship. Sullivan took second place by virtue of a victory over Jenna Johnson of Lake City.
In boys doubles, Ryan LePlant and Davis Sarbacher of Lewiston defeated runners-up William Bruno and James Kast of Coeur d’Alene for the championship.
In girls doubles, Terisa Kucera and Marina Wold of Lewiston defeated runners-up Sara Larson and Tina Vaudreuil of Lake City 6-2, 7-5 in the championship match.
In mixed doubles, Nicole DeMarco and Sam Grove of CdA defeated Jordan Madsen and Erin Woodlief of Lewiston 6-2, 6-7, 6-0 for the championship. Post Falls’ Marian Detar and Trevor Gaidjiergis defeated Madsen and Woodlief for second place.
