Online sales tax starts in July

Starting in July, retailers will start charging sales taxes on Internet customers in Washington.

About 1,100 online retailers have agreed to charge the tax to avoid being sued by the state. The tax is based on where the customer lives. Retailers have to identify 350 tax districts.

Resident hits $100,000 jackpot

Five numbers earned a Spokane man six figures after he purchased a winning lottery ticket at a downtown Spokane convenience store this month.William Armstrong bought his $100,000 winning ticket to the May 5 Hit 5 drawing at the Zip Trip at 303 S. Altamont St., according to Washington’s Lottery.

Armstrong said he might buy a truck, but his winnings are in the bank for now. “I feel great now,” he said in a news release. “It would’ve been even better, though, if I had won three times as much!” His winning numbers: 11-12-17-21-34.
