CDA girls victorious

Hanna Johnson won the 100 dash and the 300 hurdles to lead the Coeur d’Alene girls to the 5A Region I track and field title in Lewiston on Saturday.

Johnson won the 100 in 13.12 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 46.76 as CdA totaled 95.5 points. Lewiston was second with 74 points.

Chris Chesnut won the 100 and finished second to teammate Marcus Meier in the 200 to help Lewiston win the boys Region I title 113.5-107.5 over runner-up Lake City.

Chesnut clocked an 11.42 in the 100 and a 23.54 in the 200 – just .01 behind Meier. Lake City’s John Coyle won the 800 in 1:58.52 and the 1,600 in 4:25.59.

The top three individual placers and winning relay teams advance to state.

•Desirae Hutchings won the 200- and 400-meter dashes to help the Sandpoint girls win the 4A Region meet in Lewiston.

Hutching finished the 200 in 26.56 seconds and the 400 in 1:00.06 to help the Bulldogs pile up 82.5 points and easily outdistance runner-up Lakeland (59).

In the boys meet, Dan Mosman blazed to victories in the 110 hurdles (15.60) and 300 hurdles (40.73) to guide Moscow to the team title. The Bears beat runner-up Lakeland 92-53.

Lakeland’s Jake Price won the 200 (23.24) and the 400 (50.97).

The top two individual finishers and winning relay teams advance to state.

•The Bonners Ferry girls and host Timberlake boys took home team titles at the 3A District I meet at Spirit Lake.

Bonners Ferry’s girls held off runner-up Timberlake 144-121. Timberlake’s boys breezed past second-place Kellogg 147.33-77.33.

Bonners Ferry’s Samantha Hiatt and Priest River’s Lacy Hopkins were double winners. Hiatt won the 100 hurdles (16.6) and 300 hurdles (50.6), and Hopkins was tops in the 200 (26.0) and the 400 (58.5).

Nick Puckett won three events and Derek Puckett won twice for the Timberlake boys. Nick finished first in the 100 (11.1), the 200 (22.7) and the 400 (49.9), and Derek was first in the 110 hurdles (16.1) and the 300 hurdles (42.7).

Golf

Eagle’s boys and Twin Falls’ girls won team titles at the State 5A tournament at Twin Falls Municipal Golf Course.

Eagle edged Centennial 553-554, and Twin Falls breezed past runner up Caldwell 637-658.

Centennial’s Jacob Ready was boys medalist with a 4-under-par 132 over two rounds.

Tyler Johnson (137) finished sixth for fourth-place Coeur d’Alene.

Caldwell’s Trish Gibbons was the girls medalist with a two-round 7-over 149. Alyssa Nilsson (156) topped fourth-place Lewiston.

Tennis

Coeur d’Alene’s Sam Lyons medaled at the State 5A tournament in Boise. Lyons finished fourth after losing to Mountain View’s Kenny Mitchell 3-6, 6-3, 0-6 in the consolation finals.

Winning team titles in 5A were Boise’s boys and Centennial’s girls. In the 4A tournament, Bishop Kelly walked home with both the boys and girls championships. In the 3A tournament, Parma’s boys and girls won titles.
