There’s no acting in baseball
After reading in The Spokesman-Review about local baseball hero and now minor league (Peoria, Ill.) coach Ryan Sandberg getting suspended or ejected three different times this season, I commented to my chums that many Spokane boys seem to misbehave when they reach middle age. I have also noticed that phenomena among my family and close friends (some of whom were present during my remarks).
One buddy chided me by saying, “Far from misbehaving, Sandberg is demonstrating fire to his young players. These guys don’t play in that (college softball) league that lets players carry opponents around the bases.”
I doubted that a Thespian background was a necessary qualification to manage in the minor leagues. An argument ensued. Does anyone remember if Sandberg was in the Drama Club at North Central?
Perhaps the Mariners could use a coach who gets excited enough to fight when the other team tries to bunt.
