Red Sox 7, Royals 0: At Boston, the Red Sox sent 10 men to the plate in the third inning and scored five runs in support of Jon Lester’s no-hit pitching. Mike Lowell’s bases-loaded popup in the infield in a swirling wind dropped for a two-run error that gave the Red Sox a 4-0 lead.

Twins 7, Rangers 6 (12): At Minnesota, Howie Clark’s single over the head of Josh Hamilton in center field lifted the Twins to a victory over Texas in a game that saw reliever Bobby Korecky become the first Twins pitcher to get a hit in an American League game since the adoption of the designated hitter rule. Korecky also picked up his first career victory by getting two outs in the top of the 11th with the bases loaded and then pitching a perfect 12th. Frank Catalanotto had three hits for the Rangers.

Tampa Bay at Oakland, late: The Rays and Athletics were tied entering the 13th inning at press time.
