Bofa first; Whits third

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Whitworth University added its second national champion in two days and took third in the team standings for its best finish at the NCAA Division III men’s track and field championships Saturday.

Emmanuel Bofa, a sophomore from Puyallup, ran to victory in the 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 51.01 seconds.

Bofa’s victory came a day after Cody Stelzer became the school’s first NCAA D-III men’s champ by taking the high jump.

The Pirates, also picking up points Saturday in the shot put and javelin, placed third with 31 points behind McMurry (Texas) with 35 and State University of New York-Cortland with 33.

Sophomore Jeff Kintner of Wenatchee was fourth in the shot at 53-11. Kory Kemp, a junior from Redmond, Wash., was fourth in the javelin at 206-1 and Alex Hymel, a freshman from Damascus, Ore., eighth at 193-1.
