Homeowners lack of empathy shocking

I was amazed to read about Paul Shields’ total lack of empathy for the feelings of his neighbors and his blatant disregard for the community that he is ruining by building his showcase monstrosity. He calls his neighbors predators who are after him because they think he is extremely wealthy, but does not seem to be able to put himself in our position and imagine how he would feel if this was happening to him.

I am not a party to the lawsuit, but I am one of the many others in this community who have been harmed by his action. His house has taken the last piece of lake view from my house on First Avenue. Does he know or care that my 80-year-old mother cried as she watched the giant crane hoisting the logs up on his hunting showcase? Does he care that my renters will no longer enjoy a lake view? I doubt it. I guess it’s just the law of the jungle for him.

County’s solution laughable

I had to laugh when I read about the county officials’ solution (artifice) to their problem at Liberty Lake with a permit issued that allowed a house to be built that exceeded the code for height.

Artifice is defined as “a sly or artful trick” in the dictionary. Their suggested “artifice” was to pile dirt up around the house to make the ground higher. Using that logic, if one wanted a 9-foot fence and the code was 6 feet (which it is), one could make a 3-foot berm of dirt and build the fence on top of it.

I guess with county commissioners, anything goes when it comes to code enforcement. We need to hold the commissioners responsible for their actions and for enforcing the codes as written.

Homeowner nervy to call others predators

How can Paul Shields, the big hunter, have the nerve to call his neighbors predators?

He is the one who has ruined everyone’s views with his big, disgusting, giant, illegal house. I have overheard him say that he is thinking of selling this house and moving to Greece in the next few years. How can one person’s illegal, selfish, short-time dream be allowed to ruin the views and property value in a whole neighborhood? I hope his neighbors win their lawsuit.
