In brief: Golf tourney Friday at Avondale

The North Idaho College Scott Hague Memorial Cardinal Classic golf tournament will be held Friday at the Avondale Golf and Tennis Club in Hayden. The event is a four-person scramble tournament, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, with a fee of $100 per player, or $375 per team. There is a 32-team limit to guarantee dinner and a place in the tournament.

The competition will include prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin, low score, first men’s team, first women’s team and first co-ed team as well as the “We’ll Match It” hole sponsored by Panhandle State Bank.

Proceeds benefit NIC athletics through the NIC Booster Club.

North Idaho College Workforce Training Center, 525 W. Clearwater Loop, Post Falls, is holding summer business workshops. Advanced registration is required.

“Selling to the Government” will be held Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.; “Guerrilla Marketing 101: Marketing Strategies That Fit Your Budget” is June 10 from 6 to 9 p.m.; “Thinking of Starting a Business in Idaho?” is June 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.; “Marketing: Hitting the Right Target for Profit” is June 13 from 8:30 a.m. to noon; “Guerrilla Marketing 102: Are You Spending Too Much Money on Advertising?” is June 17 from 6 to 9 p.m.; “Networking for Success” is June 18 from 6 to 9 p.m.; and “Managing Your Business Finances” is June 20 at 8:30 a.m. to noon. All workshops are $29.

Author to speak, sign books

Author and nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman of Post Falls will appear at local health and book stores in June to promote her new book, “The Gut Flush Plan,” and answer questions on the subject.

On June 7 at 1 p.m., Gittleman will be at Super Supplements, 403 W. Neider Ave. in Coeur d’Alene. She will also be signing her book “21 Days to a Healthier Gut.” On June 28 at 1 p.m., Gittleman will be at Borders Books and Music, 450 W. Wilbur Ave. in Coeur d’Alene, answering questions, and signing her new book and another book, “Three Steps to Restoring Intestinal Health.”

Friends of Scotchman Peaks plan series of hikes

The Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness in Sandpoint has recently announced its summer hiking series and photo contest.

The series includes beginning family hikes to overnight trips for experienced bushwhackers. Group size is limited and reservations are required.

The Friends of Scotchman is also looking for photos of people, plants, wildlife, water and vistas in the Scotchmans for the summer photo contest. There is no limit to the number of photos entered in each category. The deadline for entry is Sept. 30, winners will be chosen in October.

Join the fun at Westside Rendevous

The 2008 Westside Rendezvous for the communities of Desmet, Tensed, Plummer and Worley is planned for Aug. 8 through 10.

The event will include a day camp, a daylong carnival, two dances featuring Four on the Floor Friday night on a farm in Tensed, and Rampage on Saturday night in Plummer.

Teepee and native crafts will be on display, along with native games. Car shows, fishing derbies, a mini fair, kids games, parade and silent raffles are among the many activities during the weekend celebration.

Community members are encouraged to participate.
