Local Republicans worry over nothing

D.F. Oliveria The Spokesman-Review

The candidacy of local Demo chairwoman Bev Moss in the House District 4A race against Repub incumbent Marge Chadderdon has caused heartburn among local R’s – particularly those who failed to take over the CDA council last fall. Bev put her name on the ballot as a strategic move to hold the spot until another Demo steps forward to run this fall (which could happen next week). At that point, Bev will withdraw from the legislative race to allow that person to be selected to fill her spot. At deposed city planner Mary Souza’s Web site, there was some speculation that Councilman Mike Kennedy would be the one to replace Bev. A silhouette to illustrate a post speculating about the possible Demo who will replace Kennedy resembled the first-term councilman. Local Repubs are paranoid that Kennedy has the popularity and community support to seek and gain higher office. As a result, they attacked him unsuccessfully during his first municipal campaign when he bested Souza in a three-way race. Kennedy’d be a quality candidate for the county commission or the Legislature. But he told Huckleberries that he’s much too busy raising a family of six young children to consider higher office – this year.

Et tu, Sterling

David Bond, Silver Valley mining observer extraordinaire, puts the recent sacking of Sterling Mine prez Ray DeMotte into perspective: “The guy gave his life the past 10 years to Sterling Mining Co., and the past five years to renovating and reopening the Sunshine Mine. Thanks to Ray and the fine crew of people he put together, Sunshine is back in silver production. In the process he is largely responsible for the renewed economic vigor here in Shoshone County. He got shivved by an ungrateful and hugely short-sighted board of directors. I don’t think the last dog is hung on this thing, and the Sunshine now has a momentum all its own, but I can’t see anything but negatives for Sterling Mining. It was a daft, dumb, ungrateful move by, as usual, a handful of greedheads.”

Huckleberries

Berry Picker JimmyMAC, an “American Idol” fan, provided a great comment on Huckleberries Online when he noticed that David Archuleta was losing badly to Larry LaRocco in that three-way race for the Demo U.S. Senate nomination Tuesday: “Didn’t David Cook already beat David Archuleta last week?” … For those keeping score at home, Repub Ron Paul captured more votes in finishing a distant second to Sen. John McCain than Barack Obama did in easily besting Hillary Clinton in the Idaho prez sweepstakes – 29,749 to 23,988 … Matt Roetter, husband of U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo’s Girl Friday Karen Roetter and a key figure in the anti-urban renewal movement, lost his GOPrecinct committeeman seat Tuesday. He fell to Bruce McKay, 91-69 … Rick Currie may have squeaked out a victory in his three-way race with Tom Cronin and Jai Nelson. But he got throttled in his bid for the GOPrecinct Committeeman 48 seat by Mike Oliver, 72-28 … Responding to news that U.S. Sen. Larry Craig plans to write a book about the final one of his 28 years in office, ex-CDA Press reporter Brent Andrews quipped on the blog: “Craig’s book will definitely make good bathroom reading, if you like to be scared out of your skin” … Berry Picker Cis, from Bonner County, caught the “House” episode in which an intern hid out in a bathroom stall, only to have someone in the next stall – the infamous Dr. Gregory House – tap her foot and apologize for his wide stance.

Parting shot

By the way, seven of my blog’s regulars are now county precinct committeemen following Tuesday’s primaries – six Repubs and Demo Thom George. Forget about the Ron Paulites. Huckleberries Online is taking over baybee.
