Storm avenge only loss

SEATTLE – Lauren Jackson scored 28 points, including the first 10 of the game, as the Seattle Storm ran out to a 14-0 lead and beat the San Antonio Silver Stars on Friday night, 78-57.

Jackson scored 16 points in the first quarter for the Storm (4-1), who bounced back from last Saturday’s 87-72 loss to the Sliver Stars (2-2) in San Antonio. Jackson had just 14 points in that game.

The Storm had lost their previous six games to the Silver Stars, including last Saturday’s decision that stopped Seattle’s season-opening, three-game winning streak.

Seattle now has matched the best start in franchise history. The 2005 team, which came into that season as the defending league champions, also won four of its first five.

San Antonio missed its first 15 shots of the game and didn’t score a field goal until 31.8 seconds remained in the first quarter.

The Silver Stars were led by 14 points apiece from Ann Wauters and Sophia Young, who drained the team’s first field goal.

Swin Cash added 14 points for Seattle, and Tanisha Wright came off the bench to score 10. Jackson pulled down nine rebounds, Yolanda Griffith had 10 boards, and Sue Bird handed out 10 assists.

Erin Buescher had 10 points off the bench for San Antonio. Young pulled down a team-leading six rebounds.
