Hanson, Cogdill make Lions’ list

There is a decidedly heavy Spokane and Washington State University influence on the Detroit Lions all-time team announced Friday in celebration of the Lions’ 75th season.

Kicker Jason Hanson (above) and receiver Gail Cogdill are both on the 36-member squad that represents the greatest players in franchise history.

Players on the all-time team span the entire 75 seasons the team has played in Detroit, from QB Earl “Dutch” Clark (1934-38) to Hanson (1992-present). The list includes Barry Sanders, Bobby Layne and Alex Karras.

Cogdill, who lives in Spokane Valley, played at Lewis and Clark High School and WSU before his nine-year career with Detroit started in 1960. He was named the NFL rookie of the year in 1960.

Hanson, who played for Mead High School and WSU, has spent his entire NFL career with the Lions.

The players will be introduced at the Lions’ home game against Jacksonville on Nov. 9.
