Pac-10 picks
Perfection is a knife that cuts both ways.
We were perfect again last week – perfectly awful.
Sure, we got the winners right three-quarters of the time, but we didn’t even come close to picking the scores correctly.
Once again the state of Oregon let us down. It’s a lose-lose proposition. We lose picking against the state’s schools; we lose picking with them.
As always, the listed line is for your entertainment purposes only.
Stanford at Oregon (Oregon by 14): Both teams played in a driving rain last Saturday, with, surprisingly enough, the Ducks having the most trouble keeping their heads above water. But Autzen Stadium gives them a huge home-lake advantage. Oregon 42-24.
Oregon State at UCLA (OSU by 8): Rarely does a Pac-10 team win on the road – outside the Evergreen State, of course. But the Beavers have spent the season upsetting the norm. They do it once again Saturday. OSU 21-10.
Arizona State at Washington (ASU by 14.5): Dennis Erickson has done a lot of positive things in his college-coaching career, but winning at UW isn’t one of them. Either is winning in the Devils’ last six games. Both streaks end now. ASU 42-3.
Cal at USC (USC by 21): This is the Trojans last big chance to impress the national … computers? Yes, that’s what college football has come down to these days. The Hal 9000 decides who has the best team in the country. USC 28-7
Arizona at Washington State (UA by 41): The last two times these teams met, the Wildcats’ offensive line consistently pushed the Cougars’ defense back 5 yards off the snap. And that’s when WSU was decent against the run. Arizona 56-10
Last week: 3-1 overall, 0-4 vs. spread; Season: 43-13 overall, 28-26 vs. spread.
