4-H holding annual talent showcase
The first Spokane 4-H Talent Showcase will be Saturday in the Phase 1 Auditorium at the Washington State University Riverpoint Campus, 668 N. Riverpoint Blvd.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a silent auction and the show begins at 7 p.m.
Performing arts and music groups include RedWing, Holy Moly Jazz Band, Spokane International Dance Troupe, and The Turner Sisters.
Tickets are $15 and will include a beverage and dessert. Cost for enrolled 4-H members is $10.

Miss Spokane group taking applications
The Miss Spokane Scholarship Organization is accepting applications for the 2009 program.
Age categories include Miss, age 17-24, and a high school senior; Teen, age 13-17, and not a high school senior; and Princess, age 7-11. The Princess category is a mentoring program and not a competition.
The application deadline is Saturday.

Parade will kick off holiday season
On Nov. 21, Santa will arrive in his second annual holiday parade at 6:45 p.m., followed by classic cars driven by the Inland Northwest Corvair Club, and holiday music from the Sacajawea Middle School Santa Band.
The parade will begin at the Davenport Hotel valet parking entrance, 10 South Post St., and will end with tree lighting at the River Park Square main entrance at Main and Post.
Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. at River Park Square with face-painting, balloon artistry and carols by the Sweet Adelines.
Mayor Mary Verner will launch the tree lighting, and the event concludes with caroling and the season’s first photos with Santa.

Boys & Girls Clubs holding family night
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County, 544 E. Providence Ave., will host its third annual Thanksgiving Family Night on Nov. 21, from 4 to 5 p.m. The dinner will be free to members of the Boys & Girls Clubs and their families.
Participants are welcome and encouraged to make donations of canned goods or financial support, as there is no cost for the holiday event.

Theater auditions to be held at church
Stagewest Community Theatre of the West Plains will hold auditions for “Love Rides the Rails or Will the Mail Train Run Tonight” by Morland Cary at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 639 Elm St. in Cheney, Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Those interested in auditioning, use the handicapped entrance.
Performances will be Feb. 20-22, Feb. 27-29, and March 6-8.

Kids’ concert series to cover Civil War
The KPBX Kids’ Concerts will play Songs of the Civil War on Nov. 22, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Bing Crosby Theatre, 901 W. Sprague Ave. The event will feature music from Wide River and will be narrated by Whitworth University English professor Leonard Oakland.
The performance will include excerpts from speeches from President Lincoln, artifacts and re-enactors from the Washington Civil War Association, and historical background information.

‘A Christmas Carol’ will feature music
The Spokane Civic Theatre, 1020 N. Howard St., is performing “A Christmas Carol, The Musical” beginning Nov. 21, through Dec. 20.
The traditional holiday story by Charles Dickens is the same, but has been given a musical twist.
The performances will be held on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.; and on Sundays at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $26 for adults, $24 for seniors, and $16 for students.
