Cause of death undetermined

Foul play is not suspected in the death of a man found in a car parked at a north Spokane Wal-Mart on Tuesday, police said.

A cause of death has not been determined, officials said.

The man was discovered Tuesday morning. At first, a Wal-Mart employee thought the man was just sleeping inside the silver Ford Taurus at 9212 N. Colton St., police said. When the employee returned to work, he realized the 62-year-old man was dead. Police responded about 9 p.m.

Armed gunman robs Zip Trip

An armed gunman held up two clerks Wednesday at a North Side Zip Trip, police said. The masked man escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was hurt, said Spokane police Officer Teresa Fuller.

Witnesses told police the man entered the store at 1023 W. Wellesley Ave. about 5:30 a.m., demanded money and threatened the clerks with a handgun, then fled.

The man was described as 6 feet 2 inches tall with a thin build and “wearing a yellow and green plaid jacket, a ski mask, black pants, and tennis shoes,” Fuller said. “He was also carrying a backpack.”

Probation officer fired over calls

A Coeur d’Alene felony probation officer accused of making harassing and drunken phone calls to a female probationer has been fired.

David L. Williams, a 16-year employee with the Idaho Department of Correction, had been on paid leave since July after a woman on probation for felony DUI claimed he’d called her in the middle of the night sounding drunk and asking sexually charged questions. He was fired Oct. 29.

“We felt it in the best interest of everyone concerned,” said Eric Kiehl, district manager for the Community Corrections Division in Coeur d’Alene.

No criminal charges have been filed regarding the phone calls.

Couple jailed on drug charges

A 3-year-old girl is in Child Protective Services custody and her parents are in jail after detectives said they found marijuana plants in their home near Riverside State Park.

The detectives, carrying out an unrelated drug investigation, smelled the plants when they went to the home of Shaun T. Wilson, 30, and 27-year-old Brynn K. Wilson at 5317 W. Woodside Ave. They returned with a search warrant about 9 a.m. Wednesday, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said.

They seized three-quarters of a pound of marijuana and 65 plants, along with four rifles and three shotguns, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Wilsons were booked into Spokane County Jail on felony counts of manufacturing a controlled substance.
