New Crime Check number introduced

Residents in Cheney now have a new Crime Check number for nonemergency police responses such as vehicle unlocks, parking complaints, noise complaints and crimes that are not in progress.

The new number is 535-9233, and for a short time, the old number will be forwarded to this new number.

As always, if it is an emergency, dial 911.

All other police business should be directed to the business phone number of the Police Department, 498-9235.

Lilac Festival gets grant from city

The Spokane Lilac Festival has received a lodging tax grant from the City of Spokane.

The $9,000 grant will be used to promote the Spokane community and the Lilac Festival.

The festival estimates it brings in about $4.5 million in tourism money annually during the third weekend in May.

Community theater to hold auditions

Stagewest Community Theatre of the West Plains will hold auditions for “Love Rides the Rails or Will the Mail Train Run Tonight,” by Morland Cary, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 639 Elm St. in Cheney, Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Those interested in auditioning, use the handicapped entrance.

Performances for the show will be Feb. 20-22, Feb. 27-29 and March 6-8.

Dodgeball tourney deadline near

The deadline for Spokane County Parks’ fifth annual Turkeybowl Dodgeball Tournament is Tuesday.

The adult, six-on-six coed (at least two women) tournament is Nov. 26.

4-H event offers auction, arts, music

The first Spokane 4-H Talent Showcase will be Saturday in the Phase 1 Auditorium at the Washington State University Riverpoint Campus, 668 N. Riverpoint Blvd.

The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a silent auction; the show begins at 7 p.m.

Performing arts and music groups include RedWing, Holy Moly Jazz Band, Spokane International Dance Troupe, and The Turner Sisters.

Tickets are $15 and will include a beverage and dessert. Cost for enrolled 4-H members is $10.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Spokane County’s Know Your Government project.
