Sasquatch men win in shootout

Community Colleges of Spokane won a shootout 4-2 Wednesday to defeat Edmonds 3-2 in NWAACC men’s soccer playoffs at Spokane Falls CC.

CCS led 2-0 at halftime on goals by Matt Miller and T.J. Rensleigh. The Tritons (6-12-1) scored twice in the second half.

CCS (13-7-2) advances to the quarterfinals to play at Highline (14-2-3) at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Volleyball

Brynn DeLong had eight kills and Alex Cey added 31 digs as CCS (29-18, 9-5) wrapped up second place in the NWAACC’s East Region with a 3-0 sweep at Yakima Valley (2-32, 0-14).

The Sasquatch will open the NWAACC tournament next Thursday at Mt. Hood CC in Gresham, Ore., against Bellevue.

Women’s soccer

Gonzaga sophomore Sheridan Jones, who led the team in points and assists, was named to the All-West Coast Conference first team.

Junior Lori Conrad and freshman Courtney Peacock made honorable mention for the Zags.

Girls soccer

Highland scored 5 minutes into overtime for a 2-1 win over Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) to open State 1A play at Gonzaga Prep. Katie Baran scored for the Eagles, who finished 7-9-1.

Baseball

Two Coeur d’Alene High standouts signed letters of intent. J.J. Turbin, an outfielder, is headed to NCAA Division I power Oregon State. Jackson Seaman, an infielder/pitcher, is going to North Dakota State.
