Anthem disrespected

The Spokesman-Review

When I was a freshman at Whitworth College, the singer informed the assembly how the national anthem should be sung with reverence to our independence. It should honor our separation from British rule and our defense by the militia and volunteers.

It should not be sung to win a Grammy or other awards. They should not sing it to further promote the singer and/or singers. It is disrespectful to the citizens and veterans who have and are now defending our flag.

My wife’s comment on one rendition was, “That was really bad.” I am a Korean veteran and feel strongly about its portrayal.

I feel the singer who is out for more recognition is a disgrace to our independence.
