Griz keep Bengals winless
Marc Mariani tied a school record with a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown, and Chase Reynolds ran for 152 yards and a touchdown as No. 5 Montana defeated winless Idaho State 29-10 in Big Sky Conference football Saturday in Missoula.
Idaho State led the Grizzlies 7-2 on Eddie Thompson’s 43-yard touchdown reception at 13:48 in the second quarter. Thompson’s touchdown came one play after Reynolds fumbled at the end of a 7-yard gain.
The lead lasted until 5:14 remained in the half, when Mariani caught a line-drive punt by Jon Vanderweilen and broke into the clear near the 20-yard line. The Grizzlies scored two more touchdowns before halftime.
Montana State 49, Portland State 32: Senior tailback Demetrius Crawford rushed for a career-high 187 yards and two touchdowns, and converted wide receiver Mark Desin passed for a touchdown and ran for another as the injury-battered Bobcats trounced the Vikings in Bozeman.
Sacramento State 45, Northern Colorado 25: Sophomore quarterback Jason Smith threw a career-high four touchdown passes to lead the Hornets past the Bears in Sacramento, Calif.
Senior wide receiver Tony Washington caught four passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns for Sacramento State.
