Former Whitworth professor dies

Fenton Duvall, a former Whitworth University history professor, died on Nov. 11. He was 96.

Duvall became a professor at Whitworth in 1949. During his tenure he co-founded the Core program with Professor Emeritus of English Clarence Simpson, and became the first faculty member to lead an international Jan Term study program. He also served as dean of students for four years.

A memorial service was held at his residence at the John Knox Village Retirement Center, in Pompano Beach, Fla., on Nov. 15.

Memorial gifts may be made to the R. Fenton Duvall Endowed Scholarship Fund at Whitworth. Contributions can be sent to the Whitworth University Office of Institutional Advancement, 300 W. Hawthorne Road.
