Grading the cougars: B+

Quarterback: B-

The throw to Karstetter was clutch, but up until then Lopina struggled.

Running backs: B+

Tardy and Mitz combined for 145 yards, the best effort this season. Plus there was Mitz’s big run.

Receivers: B-

Karstetter’s catch – his fourth of the season – was enough to lift the group into B territory.

Offensive line: B+

UW had four sacks after coming in with 10. But run blocking more than made up for that.

Defensive line: B

The size disadvantage was hard to overcome, but Cougs still came up with 8 tackles for loss.

Linebackers: B+

A senior – Trent – and a freshman – Bland – excelled. And Mattingly made contributions.

Defensive backs: B+

The corners locked down and came up with a pick. The safeties helped in run support.

Special teams: A

If there was a group that won the 101st Apple Cup, this was it.

Coaching: B+

This group isn’t afraid to try new things and it showed. The run scheme and the defensive tweaks were key.
