Remember Westerns? This Baz Luhrmann (“Moulin Rouge”) film captures the range and sweep of traditional oaters by following the exploits of an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) and the Outback wrangler (Hugh Jackman) whom she reluctantly hires. And it’s all set just as World War II is breaking out, with the Japanese threatening to invade.

Running time/rating: 2:57; rated PG-13 (violence, a scene of sensuality, brief strong language)

What they’re saying: “Baz Luhrmann has delivered a shamelessly melodramatic, often eccentric spectacle with true-blue blockbuster potential.” – Megan Lehmann, Hollywood Reporter
