Burglar captured during attempted break in

Spokane Valley Police early Wednesday captured a burglar who was attempting to break into the office and storage units at Skyview Storage, 13400 E. 32nd Ave., said spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

A witness reported seeing Timothy L. Zacheis scurrying around atop the building dressed in dark clothing. She also reported seeing the suspect attempting to force open slider doors on a storage unit.

The call to 911 was received about 4:36 a.m. and officers had the business surrounded within minutes.

Zacheis apparently became aware of their presence. As they watched, police say he shimmied down the electrical mast on the side of the building, jumped a fence and began running away.

With officers Jeremy Howe and Mark Brownell in foot pursuit, Zacheis made it to a car parked a short distance away. When he refused the commands to exit the car and surrender, Howe used his taser to gain compliance.

He was booked into the Spokane County Jail on two counts of second-degree burglary. Additionally, he was booked on a previously issued arrest warrant charging him with third-degree theft.

Police have received reports of a half-dozen rooftop burglaries over the past several weeks.
