Eastern in title match against PSU
Eastern Washington dominated the first two sets and overcame a deficit in the third set and the Eagles advanced to the Big Sky Conference tournament championship game with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-23 victory over the Weber State Wildcats Friday night at Portland.
Hayley Hills had 18 kills to pace the top-seeded Eagles (18-10), who advance to the conference championship game for the eighth time in nine seasons, where they will face the second-seeded tournament hosts from Portland State. Eastern has won 12 of its past 13 matches.
After dominating the first two sets, the Eagles had to battle back to claim the victory.
Weber State (21-13) controlled much of the third set, jumping out to a 17-10 lead. But Eastern battled back to tie the score at 21-21 before completing the sweep.
Ashley Hamilton had 31 assists and four blocks for Eastern, while Mandy Daniels contributed 16 digs.
•Sophomore Brittany Tillman had 14 kills and six blocks to lead Washington State to a 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20 Pacific-10 Conference victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils at Pullman.
Jackie Albright, Emily Rooney and Meagan Ganzer had 13 kills apiece for the Cougars (9-19, 2-15).
Margie Giordano paced ASU (13-17, 4-13) with 21 kills.
•Airial Salvo collected 18 kills and 15 digs to lead the Washington Huskies (23-4, 14-3 Pac-10) to a 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17 victory over the Arizona Wildcats (16-13, 6-11) at Seattle.
