Local Market CdA marks opening

The grand opening of The Local Market CdA, 210 Sherman Ave., inside the Coeur d’Alene Resort’s Plaza Shops, is today, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Santa Claus will be stopping by. Children can have their face painted, make holiday crafts with Art on the Edge, and get a free cookie through Christmas at Wild Flour Bakery. Visitors can also enjoy warm, spiced cider and listen to live music.

The market includes handmade gifts from local crafters, along with kosher beef, lamb, chicken, wild-caught salmon, seasonal fruits and vegetables, homemade bread and pasta, tofu, salsa, coffee, tea, honey, eggs and organic hummus.

The Local Market CdA is open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., through April 25.

Comedian at NIC Wednesday

Alexandra McHale will perform at North Idaho College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Activities Center in the Edminster Student Union Building.

McHale had been on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno on NBC, “The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn” on CBS, and Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend.” She’s also a frequent commentator of VH1’s “I Love the ’80s” and the “100 Most Cheesetastic Video Countdown.”

Digital TV transition classes offered

Time Warner Cable is offering free digital transition classes at the Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls libraries in December and January.

The 20- and 30-minute classes will explain the DTV transition, help identify if your television is affected, and your options.

Classes at the Coeur d’Alene Library will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Jameson Room; Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Gozzer Room; and Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. in the Gozzer Room.

Classes at the Post Falls Library will be in meeting room one at 6 p.m. Dec. 15, Jan. 21 and Feb. 18.

Women’s club Christmas bazaar Saturday

The Bayview Community Center, will host the BAB Women’s Club annual Christmas bazaar next Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event will feature all-you-can-eat homemade soups, salad and rolls, and a silent auction.

Homemade baked goods will be for sale and theme baskets will be raffled off. Tickets for a handmade quilt also will be for sale. The drawing will be Dec. 9.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 7 and younger.

Proceeds from the bazaar will benefit the ABC Food Bank, the North Idaho College Scholarship, Athol Elementary School Library and Girls State Scholarship.

Mud and Spirits next weekend

The Clay Arts Guild of North Idaho will host the fifth-annual Mud and Spirits Christmas Pottery Show on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and next Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.

Functional and sculptural pottery will be on display and for sale by more than 25 participating potters.

B&B holiday open house planned

The North Idaho Bed and Breakfast Association is getting into the holiday spirit with the 19th annual Holiday Open House Dec. 14, from noon to 5 p.m.

Tours include the Northside School in Bonners Ferry; Log Spirit and Cedar Mountain Farms in Athol; Dromore Manor in Bayview; Tranquility Bed and Breakfast in Rathdrum; American Country, The Roosevelt Inn and Abbotswood House in Coeur d’Alene; and Country Lane Resort in Kingston.

The tour is free. Donations of nonperishable food items for area food banks are welcome, as well as monetary donations to the “Christmas for All” fund.
