Whitworth crushes Caltech behind Friedt

Dominant.

Only one word is necessary to describe Whitworth University’s 88-38 victory over the Caltech Beavers in the CIT/Oxy Thanksgiving Classic Friday night in Los Angeles.

Felix Friedt had 18 points and 16 rebounds and five other Pirates scored in double figures to lead Whitworth (3-0), which had a 46-14 rebounding edge and forced the Beavers (0-3) into 29 turnovers.

Tim Sellereit had 17 points, Jordan Call and Troy Kalbhenn 11 apiece and Steve Stockton and Mike Odland 10 apiece for Whitworth.

It looked like the Pirates were in for a battle when the score was tied at 10 eight minutes in, but Whitworth outscored the Beavers 34-7 over the final 12 minutes of the half to lead 44-17 at the intermission.

The rout continued when the Pirates scored the first seven points of the second half to lead 51-17 and Caltech never came closer than 30 points the rest of the way.

•Taylor Stevens led six Cardinals in double figures with 19 points to lead North Idaho to a 109-68 drubbing of Salish Kootenai College at the NIC Thanksgiving Classic.

Guy-Marc Michel had 13 points, Melvin Jones 12, Shawn Henderson 11 and 10 rebounds, and Renaldo Parker and Martell Anderson 10 points apiece.

The Cardinals hit 21 of 30 first-half field goals on their way to a 51-34 lead. They were 43 of 69 for the game.

Dane Fisher led Salish Kootenai College with 27 points, making 12 of 14 free throws along the way.
