Investigators probe fire that claimed 4
SNOHOMISH, Wash. – Investigators from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are continuing to sift through ashes to determine what caused a mobile home fire that killed four people.
Two adult sisters and one woman’s two young daughters died in the Tuesday morning fire.
Snohomish Police Chief John Turner on Wednesday identified the victims as: Maria del Carmen MontaIno Reynaga, 28; Petra MontaIno Reynaga, 25; Ashley Morales MontaIno, 7; and Yareli Morales MontaIno, 4.
Both women came from Mexico several years ago and worked at Mexican restaurants in Snohomish County. They saved enough money and bought the mobile home last month for $4,000, the Herald of Everett reported.
The family had moved into the Snohomish Mobile Home and RV Park last weekend.
After a trained dog from King County detected flammable liquid at the scene, police are investigating whether the fire was an accident or arson.
“We have no determination at this time,” Turner said. “We can’t tell at this point whether we have an intentional crime or an accident.”
He said the Washington State Patrol crime lab finished collecting evidence Wednesday, and ATF officials will continue combing through the site today.
