Party raises money for EWU libraries
Come as you are, or come as your favorite ghoul, ghost or goblin to Monster Mash Oktoberfest Bash, the annual fundraiser for Eastern Washington University libraries, from 5-10:30 p.m., Oct. 25, in the JFK Library on the Cheney campus.
Enjoy a “killer” feast by Black Tie Catering, with wine and beer tasting courtesy of Latah Creek Winery, Preston Premium Wines, Coeur d’Alene Brewing Co. and Northern Lights Brewing Co. Nonalcoholic beverages will also be served.
Live music by the Don Goodwin Group will raise the spirits, and the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon will perform their award-winning rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
Bid on gift baskets, original artwork, certificates to local restaurants, businesses and more during the silent auction. Play the 50-50 raffle to win cash, take a chance on the quilt raffle, or bid in the live auction featuring items and activities, including a 2009 Honda Ruckus scooter from Westside Motorsports, an Epic Adventures white-water rafting trip and a ride in a hot-air balloon with Avian Balloon Co. Other items include an original work of ledger art by George Flett, electronics such as a Treo 750 Smartphone and Dell MID computers, a one-year membership to the new EWU Recreation Center, a Fuji Crosstown 3.0 bicycle and much more.
Tickets are $35 each or $175 for a reserved table for six, and student tickets are $15. All proceeds benefit the EWU Libraries Collection Endowment Fund for the purchase of books and journals

Curves promoting cancer awareness
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and in celebration all Spokane-area Curves Fitness Clubs for Women is distributing a breast self-examination aid called LIV-AID.
The aid acts as a magnifying glass for your fingers when doing a self exam to more easily detect changes or abnormalities in your breast. Early detection is the key to fighting breast cancer.

Girls learn skills from GU women
Girls ages 5 to 12 will have an opportunity to learn basketball skills from Gonzaga University women’s basketball team members on Oct. 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Girl Scout Program Center, 1404 N Ash.
Girls will hear from the women athletes what it takes to excel in sports and in life, as well as gain personal instruction in basic basketball skills.
