Scoop Reporter was spotted hiding among advertisements in last week’s Voices by the following six winners who are this week’s Honorary Cub Reporters and are eligible to receive free ice cream. This was the last week of the contest.

Mayor names Mallahan director
Spokane Mayor Mary Verner this week appointed acting Neighborhood Services Director Jonathan Mallahan to the post permanently.
Mallahan has been serving in the post since May. He’s a Gonzaga University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in political science and minor in philosophy.
He began working in the Office of Neighborhood Services to prepare for the Neighborhoods USA conference to be held in Spokane next May.
Mallahan’s appointment still must go before the Spokane City Council for confirmation.

GU women’s hoops offers clinic
Girls ages 5 to 12 will have an opportunity to learn basketball skills from Gonzaga University women’s basketball team members on Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the new Girl Scout Program Center, 1404 N Ash.
Girls will hear what it takes to excel in sports and in life, as well learn basic basketball skills.
The clinic is part of an open house hosted by Girl Scouts Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho to showcase the new program center, which features a full-size gymnasium, rock climbing wall, computer lab, learning kitchen and arts and crafts room. Girl Scout staff will be on hand to answer parents’ questions and register girls interested in becoming Girl Scouts.

Riverfront Farms plans fundraiser
Riverfront Farms will present the 2008 Harvest Fest and Fundraiser Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Farm/Eco House, 2605 W. Boone Ave.
The event includes barbecue food, door prizes and live music.
Riverfront Farms employs five at-risk youths who are learning how to grow an organic garden in an urban environment.
The cost is $25 per person, $35 per couple and $50 per family.
